Abstrakt

The paper presents one of the most outstanding Polish historians – Gerard Labuda (1919-2010) who is an author of nearly 2,000 scientific publications and was the president of The Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, Rector of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, doctor honoris of several polish universities etc. Gerard Labuda was born in the Kashubian region and always felt strong relation with the place of origin. He was emphasizing he is “Kashubian living in Poznań” and for many years was sustaining the contact with the Kashubian-Pomeranian movement. The history of Pomerania was one of the most important areas of his scientific interests. At the end of his life the most important, as he was pointing, work which is Historia Kaszubów w dziejach Pomorza, t. I: Czasy średniowieczne (The Kashubians past in the history of Pomerania, v. I: Medieval Times) (2006) was written. In the publication the meaning of the Kashubian origin for his science development and his attitude to life was described and the importance of historical work on Kashubia and Pomerania of Gerard Labuda was enhanced.
