Abstrakt


The memory of a scientist at 170th anniversary of his birth
In the current year, 11 December passes 170 anniversary of the birthday of German physician, medical bacteriologist, Robert Koch. He is considered as a one of the founders of modern bacteriology of infectious diseases. Koch established the new fields of medical bacteriology, public health, hygiene and discovered many species of pathogenic bacteria such as tubercle bacillus (Nobel Prize in 1905) and cholera bacillus (1883). For the Poles Robert Koch is particularly close, since the scientific work began in Wolsztyn near Poznań, where he was a doctor of the Polish population speaking in Polish language too. A lot of valuable memorabilia related to his life and work is collected in the Museum of Robert Koch in Wolsztyn in house, which the doctor with his family housed. This very famous Museum frequently visited by visitors from all over the world also runs educational activities. In the annexe building is a Scientific Association and Foundation of the name of Robert Koch. To quote the doctor Below with Hannover (1908): ”Wolsztyn and Poznan have gained thanks to honor Robert Koch, from which came the international fame, bringing them the pride of all times”. The stay in Wolsztyn was an extremely important step in the life of Robert Koch. He belongs to the group of great scientists – Europeans from the Polish soil, the man, whose name is known to the whole world since from the 19th century. This article was created to commemorate the memory of the great scientist Robert Koch in the 170 anniversary of his birthday.
