Abstrakt

The paper presents two debates which have been organized by both task-force committees affiliated with Division One: the Committee of Ethics in Science and the Committee on Science
Studies: The role of scientist in a public debate, and Ethical aspects of rankings in science. Both debates deal with controversial issues, such as: responsibility of scientists in a public discourse, the competence of scientists in public communication, and their engagement in politics or other
kinds of public activities as well as the problem of methodology of academic rankings and their objectivity.
