Abstrakt

Romuald Zbigniew Klekowski 1924-2015 passed away in Warsaw on May 2015. He was widely known among hydrobiologists and ecologists for his study on: ecological bioenergetics of polikilotermics animals and mathematical modelling of ecological processes. Professor Klekowski was head of the Department of Experimental Hydrobiology (1953-1970) and Ecological Bioenergetics (1971-1974) at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS. He was director and chairman (1975-1990) of the Department of Ecological Bioenergetics at the Institute of Ecology PAS. Professor Klekowski was well-known in the international arena. He participate in the foundation of the Polish Antarctic Station (1977) and was member of six scientific voyages on the Soviet Union ships (1974, 1978, 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993). From 1965 to 1998 Klekowski was Editor-in-Chief of “Polskie Archiwum Hydrobiologii”. His professional accomplishments also include activities in Polish Academy of Sciences. Professor Klekowski was a regular member of PAS and in the years 1984-1995 the secretary of the Biological Division of PAS.
